I never thought that how much i would be benefited by doing music. But what i got back, nothing else could’ve done the same rather than Music."

'If father was a pioneer, mother was a muse for me..'

Abhirup was born on June 16, 1991. For Abhirup, music is inherited. It runs in his blood as his father Anup Chatterjee is a classical Tabla player, drummer and multi percussionist and his mother Sima Chatterjee is a singer. Abhirup first appeared to perform on stage when he was just three years old and played Tabla with his mother as a kid can play according to his rhythm sense. Finally, at an early age of five, Abhirup started learning Tabla from his father which showed him later the gateway of doing music. He learns Tabla from his father for long seventeen years followed by ‘Farukabad Gharana’ and completes ’Sangeet Bhushan’ from Prachin Kala Kendra, Chandigarh.

Abhirup started his musical career as a Tabla Player from his childhood besides his education and performed in many shows. He passed out his H.S exam with a Silver Medal for being the topper in his school and then he completed his Graduation with English Honours. At the age of 12, he started listening western music and got an interest. In the year 2003, he started learning Octapad to his father. Later he started performing to play with western music and got a deep connection with drumming. Being influenced by western music he decided to learn drums and shifted to Kolkata. He joined the Drum Class of Mr. Gaurab Chatterjee (aka Gaboo), son of Legendary Gautam Chattopadhyay (Mohiner Ghoraguli) as well as the drummer of renowned Indian Bengali Rock Band Lakkhichara. At that time he had started building his professional music career.

Respectively Abhirup has worked with several renowned Artists and Bands of Kolkata Music Industry. Repeatedly he has performed in big cities of India like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Gujarat except Kolkata.

One of Abhirup’s cherished experience is Sharing the stage with renowned Indian Playback Singer Babul Supriyo and Famous Music Director Shantanu Maitra at the Reality Show Zee Bangla SaReGaMaPa.
